Thinking of Living in Bath Beach Brooklyn?

The Bath Beach section of Brooklyn, while not a beach community since 1940, is a vibrant, diverse, residential neighborhood. Traditionally a Southern Italian-American, Roman Catholic community, the neighborhood today is home to a large Chinese and Chinese-American population, Eastern European immigrants from nations such as Ukraine and Georgia, and a growing population of Albanian, Mexican, Guatemalan, El Salvadorian, Honduran, Egyptian, Lebanese, and Pakistani immigrants. There are Buddhist temples, Islamic Mosques, Christian churches, and Jewish synagogues, as well as a variety of restaurants all reflecting the neighborhood’s diversity. Served by the 62nd Precinct, Bath Beach is also one of the safest neighborhoods in Brooklyn.

The neighborhood is served by two branches of the Brooklyn Public Library: the New Utrecht Branch located at 1743 86th Street and the Ulmer Park Branch located at 2602 Bath Avenue.  Families with young children will also find a number of nearby schools.

The neighborhood boundaries form a rectangle. Its northernmost street and major commercial street is 86th Street. Its southernmost street is Shore Parkway, which provides gorgeous views of the bay. Its traditional eastern boundary is Bay Parkway, which provides a major MTA transit hub at 86th Street, entryway to the Belt Parkway, and access to the major shopping area called Caesar’s Bay. Despite this traditional eastern boundary, some people view the end of Bath Beach as being Bay 50th Street. With regards to its western boundary, the border with neighboring Dyker Heights is 14th Avenue, which is home to Dyker Beach Park and Golf Course, an area often labeled Dyker Park.

The D-train runs along 86th Street, providing subway services into Manhattan along Sixth Avenue. Additionally, 86th Street is the route of B1 bus that runs from Kingsborough Community College in Manhattan Beach to Bay Ridge. Along Bath Avenue, the B64 bus runs from Bath Beach, through Dyker Heights, to Bay Ridge. The B82 and B6 buses run along Bay Parkway providing service to Flatlands and East New York. The B3 bus runs along 25th Avenue, providing service to Marine Park and Mill Basin. The X28 and X38 express buses to Manhattan are accessible along Cropsey Avenue.
